Translate PDF extracts the text from your document and translates it between 12 languages using a local Argos Translate neural model, returning the result as a plain text file.

About Translate PDF

Translation here runs on a neural model installed on our own server rather than through Google, DeepL or any other external service. Nothing about your document leaves the machine that processes it. That matters when the file is a supplier contract, a patient record or an internal report, where pasting the text into a public translation box would mean handing it to a third party you have no agreement with.

Two honest caveats. The output is a plain text file, not a translated PDF that preserves your original layout, tables and images, so treat it as readable content rather than a drop-in replacement document. And the first time you use a particular language pair, the model for it downloads before translation starts, so that run takes noticeably longer. Subsequent translations in the same pair are quick.

Frequently asked questions

Which languages can I translate between?
Twelve are available, and the source and target dropdowns on the page show the current list. Choose any pair from it. If a pair you need is missing, translating through a widely supported intermediate language is possible but will compound errors, so prefer a direct pair where one exists.
Does the translation keep my original layout?
No, and this is worth knowing before you start. The output is a plain text file containing the translated content, without your fonts, columns, tables or images. If you need a formatted document, paste the translated text into your own template and lay it out there.
Why was my first translation so slow?
Because the model for that language pair downloads before translation can begin. It is a one-off cost per pair. Once the model is present, later translations in the same direction start immediately, and speed then depends mainly on how much text your document contains.
Is my file sent to Google Translate or a similar service?
No. Translation happens on our server with a locally installed model, so no external API is contacted and your text is not transmitted to another company. For confidential material this is the meaningful difference from pasting content into a public translation website.
How good is the translation?
It is solid neural machine translation, generally reliable for meaning and good enough to understand a document you could not otherwise read. It is not a professional human translation. Do not rely on it unchecked for legal, medical or contractual wording where a subtle error carries real cost.
